Thai Orchids Lab (TOL) is a planter and a supplier of forestry products. Its main products are Teak and Agarwood plants for plantation companies. Teak plants have been sold to private and commercial clients around the world, including Australia, Africa, Asia, and Central and South America.

The company was incorporated in the 1986 in Bangkok, Thailand. It started as a biotechnology company in tissue culture services in agriculture and was one of the first companies to commercialize commercial Teak tissue culture. It was founded by Dr. Paiboolya Gavinlertvatana who received his Ph.D. in Agriculture from the University of Minnesota. He taught at Kasetsart University in Thailand as an Associate Professor of Agriculture.

TOL has over 500 germplasms collected from various geographic conditions. The selection process is extremely rigorous, requiring an examination of over 1,000 trees for each germplasm.

The company claims fast growing elite stock, including a 16-year rotation on Teak plantations, a 20-40% reduction in harvest time.

[edit] Tissue culture technology

Tissue culture is the process of "cloning" trees based on a small tissue of the original plant. By using tissue culture, the genetic identity of the mother plant is reproduced in its clones.

Thai Orchids Lab Estates (TOLE) was spun off to manage Teak plantations in Thailand using elite Teak material from TOL. TOLE is co-owned by Dr. Paiboolya, the founder of TOL, and two other individuals.
