Balsa (scientific name: Ochroma pyramidale) is a large fast-growing, evergreen tree. It's maximum height is 30 meters. About 60 percent of balsa is now plantation grown.

In plantations, the trees are densely packed with 50 to 100 trees per hectare. In nature about two to three balsa trees are seen per hectare.
